Moshe Ami, 56 Oct 29, 2011 - Moshe Ami, 56, of Ashkelon, was killed when shrapnel from a Grad rocket hit his car.
At 8 pm on Saturday evening, Moshe Ami had just returned from visiting his brother in Petah Tikva and phoned his partner Ela Costin, saying he would pick her up to go shopping. Ela asked him to come home: "A few minutes later the alarm sounded. I heard it and called him back. At first he didn''t answer me. Then I heard the explosion not too far from my house. The second time he answered. I asked him if he was okay, and he said he was wounded."
Wounded in the abdomen, he was at first classified as mildly injured victim and taken to Barzilai Medical Center in the city. However his condition deteriorated quickly and surgeons were called in to try and save his life. Nearly an hour and a half later Moshe died on the operating table.
Moshe worked as an infrastructure contractor. He was divorced, and had been living in Ashkelon with Ela for the past two years. "He had a heart of gold. He was a good man who helped everybody and no one had one bad word to say about him," said Costin, whose own child called him "Abba" - Daddy.
Moshe lost his brother Yossi in the first Lebanon War and six years ago his father passed away.
Moshe Ami was buried in Ashkelon. He is survived by his mother Zvia and sister Zehava, four children, Nira, Shlomi, Rachel and Yossi, and five grandchildren. |
